ONE MAN’S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE!-AUGUST IS VACATION MONTH!
There has been an explosion in the thrift stores and flea markets this summer. Thrifting and saving, especially during this economic crisis, is definitely in fashion. It is intriguing to see that this is nothing new for the Jew in the early nineteenth century. In this etching, made in 1815 England, it is clear that a Jewish man is buying old clothing. How resourceful! Don’t forget to donate your own old clothes too!
Two men at a street corner, one a slim well dressed young man, the other a heavyset man, not smartly dressed, bearded with Jewish features, holding pants.
Yeshiva University Museum, New York (1993.027) Gift of William H. Helfand
